Wellington, PEI - August 30, 2014 – Collège de l'Île is pleased to announce that it will be offering a French grammar course through its three training centres in Wellington, Charlottetown and Deblois. Classes start September 9 and will be held every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for 15 weeks.

The course is eligible for credit at Collège de l'Île and is taught by CAÎPÉ professor Robert Bullen. It's ideal for anyone who needs to review basic grammar: parents who want to help their children, employees providing services in French, people who want to write better or Francophiles looking for a linguistic experience. This course may also be eligible for university credits at UPEI.

The main objectives of the program are to allow students to review the basic rules of grammar and syntax in written French, apply them to their written work, improve their vocabulary, explore useful online writing tools, use correction software and get tips on structuring their texts.

The course is divided into modules. The first module deals with the basic elements making up a sentence, that is, the main characteristics and functions of words. Then students will study agreements in grammar and the rules of syntax: qualifying adjectives, verbs, homophones, punctuation, etc., followed by an examination of reference works, how to use them and the resources they contain. The last module is an opportunity for students to practice everything they have learned in the course by writing short texts.

At the end of the training, participants will have a better knowledge of grammar and syntax, will make fewer errors in their texts, will feel more positive about their skills and will be equipped to improve their own language skills.

The cost of the course is $315. Classes begin on September 9 and are held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Tuesday evening for 15 weeks. Sessions take place at Collège de l'Île's centre at 48 Mill Road in Wellington and are transmitted by videoconference to Deblois and Charlottetown. The registration deadline is September 5.
