Student from Mexico makes his dream come true at the Collège!
This year, as he was entering his fourth year at university, he learned the exciting news that at last, he would be participating in the Proyecta 10,000 program in the summer of 2017. Along with six other students from Mexico, Mauricio arrived at Collège de l’Île this past July 3 to take part in an intensive four-week immersion program in English.
“I speak English, but I want to expand my vocabulary,” explains Mauricio. “To me this is a necessary part of my studies in mechatronic engineering, because I have to be able to communicate with people from all over the world, and English is often the language that people have in common.”

Alpha 1-2-3 featured at the 2017 Education Summit
The Third Education Summit was held on May 4 to 6, 2017, simultaneously in Ottawa, Edmonton and Moncton. This event is held every five years to develop and consolidate the network of Francophone schools across Canada. This year, the Summit’s aim was to encourage joint action around three broad areas of development for the French language elementary and secondary education system: instruction/learning, building an identity and cultural diversity.
Alice Bérubé, Coordinator of Skills Development and Literacy at Collège de l’Île, and Elise Boudreau, the Coordinator of Settlement Services for the CIF, a body with the principal mandate of helping French-speaking newcomers, went to Moncton for the occasion and presented the Alpha 1-2-3 program in the hope that it would inspire other stakeholders in Canada’s Francophone community.
Promotion in Îles de la Madeleine, May 4 to May 7, 2017
“In addition to strong language and cultural ties to PEI’s Acadian and Francophone community, we have much in common with Îles de la Madeleine when it comes to an Island way of life,” said Collège de l’Île President Donald DesRoches. “We look forward to showcasing postsecondary programs available in French and in English to future students and the job opportunities associated with these programs.”
Strategic Partnership and Grand Opening of the Charlottetown Campus
Postsecondary students will benefit from new and exciting opportunities through a partnership between Collège de l’Île and Holland College like no other in Canada.
Beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year, courses in some programs will be available for students to take in either institution in English or French. This means Collège de l’Île students will have the opportunity to take some courses in English with Holland College. Conversely, Holland College students will have the opportunity to take some courses in French at Collège de l’Île. Students from both colleges will also enjoy other benefits such as campus access, health insurance and language training programs.

“Serving our clients – our students – that’s our priority,” said Christine Arsenault, Admission and Student Services Coordinator. “We are receiving more and more inquiries from students who have obtained their diploma out of province or out of country so it’s important for us to be well versed in the most recent international diploma evaluations.”
